About the Jamestown Guided Tour
- The Life at Jamestown tour is a 2.5 hour guided tour where students are introduced to the daily life and struggles of the early Jamestown colony. Here, students will visit the three replica ships, the James Fort and the Powhatan village. Students will be engaged in hands-on demonstrations, which include musket firing and open hearth cooking. This tour meets the following Virginia SOLs: VS. 1, VS. 3, USI.1, USI.4 and USI.5.
- Contact the reservations desk at (757)253-4939 between 8:30am and 5pm to set up a date and time to book your group. There is no guaranteed, specific tour guide or contact person on site. There are many informative employees and guides that will assist you in the reservation process and group tours. However, you must call at least 72
hours in advance to book your group.
- Must have a group of 15 or more to book a tour, and one chaperone is required per every ten students.
- Jamestown Settlement is open daily 9am- 5pm Monday through Sunday. Groups must arrive 30 minutes prior to the tour.
- $7.50 for each student, and this must be paid by the date of the visit.
- All areas of the museum and tour are handicap accessible for students with disabilities or special needs. The ships, however, are not. Wheelchairs, open-captioned versions of the films, and listening devises are available on site. Sign language interpreters are also available (must call 2 weeks in advance) and guide animals are permitted.
- Picnic table are available outside the museum for brown bag lunches, and there is also the James Settlement Café that provides box lunches and foods for an additional fee.
- Parking is complimentary, and this includes bus parking on site next to the visitor’s center.
- A number of restrooms are located in the visitor’s center, in the museum and in designated areas on the tour.
- A gift shop is located in the visitor’s center and offers books, souvenirs and teacher resources.
